dog services

Saying goodbye to our cherished family pets is a difficult time for our clients, and Mill Bay Veterinary Hospital has a private room for the end of life procedure. When you are ready to say goodbye, a sedative is administered and allowed to take effect over the next ten minutes. Once your pet is settled and relaxed the final injection is administered, and your veterinarian will stay with you and your dog until end of life is pronounced. We do understand that not all clients wish to be with their pets at end of life, and we are happy to take over that role.

What is pet euthanasia and how do I know when it’s the right time?

Please book an appointment to discuss the quality of life with one of our veterinarians.

How is the euthanasia drug administered?

The final injection is given intravenously in either a front or back leg, and the drug takes effect quickly.

What is the cost of pet euthanasia?

Please call our hospital for the current pricing of euthanasia, and cremation.

Does your clinic provide bereavement counselling?

We allow our clients and their family the opportunity to stay as long as they like with their dog once the euthanasia procedure is complete. Once you feel ready to leave our staff will follow your instructions for the care of your dog’s remains. We offer private cremation and provide you with choices of tasteful urns and keepsakes for your dog’s ashes. We also offer the choice of group cremations where your dog is cremated, and no ashes are returned to the hospital. Clay paw prints are also available upon request. Clients who wish to take care of their own pets remains are welcome to take the body home.
