How can I tell if my cat has arthritis?

All patients are different, but generally speaking, there are a few things you can watch for that may be an indication of arthritis or other joint disorders:

  • Limping and stiffness
  • Increased irritability
  • Fatigue
  • Trouble using their litter box
  • Less time spent grooming/licking themselves
  • Wincing when going up and down stairs

Can catnip and other foods help my cat’s arthritis?

Not necessarily. Certain foods may help improve your pet’s mood (e.g. if they particularly like that formula) but cat food alone cannot alleviate your pet’s arthritis pain and discomfort. After a proper checkup and diagnosis, the doctor will prescribe one or a combination of the following treatments:

  • Anti-inflammatory medications
  • Pain relievers
  • Laser therapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Rehabilitation
  • Supplements
