Laser therapy is a newer therapy offered primarily for recovery from an injury or trauma. Infrared light is used in multiple radiances to treat a wide variety of inflammatory issues, acute or chronic injuries, and reduce pain.
What is therapeutic laser therapy for dogs and what are the benefits?
The laser is an infrared light that runs at various frequencies and enters bodily tissues at different depths. Using infrared light helps increase circulation, cellular metabolism, and decreased pain. Using a laser to aid cellular repair helps the site of the injury recover from whatever trauma occurred.
Are lasers dangerous for dogs and are there any side effects?
Laser therapy is not used in any cases that could potentially be worsened by the treatment. The prescribed laser treatments are for patients with injuries that have been researched by the laser manufacturer or other sources. If your veterinarian is unsure if the laser is safe to use in your pet’s case, they can contact one of the laser representatives and discuss the case, prior to laser therapy.
